Buying a luxury car safely: avoiding scams

The high-end market attracts fraudsters. Here are the habits and safeguards for buying with peace of mind on Luxydrive.

The most common scams

Most frauds follow recognisable patterns.

  • A fake listing at an abnormally low price
  • A hurried seller who invents an emergency
  • A request for a remote deposit before any inspection
  • Insistence on paying off the platform

Checking the vehicle

Before any payment, cross-check the information.

  • Verify the VIN and that it matches the listing
  • Request the service history, invoices and roadworthiness certificate
  • Compare the photos, specs and the registration cost shown on the listing

Communicating safely

The contact channel is your first line of protection.

  • Communicate through the internal messaging, with contact details hidden
  • Never pay a deposit to a stranger
  • An anti-scam note accompanies every introduction

Luxydrive's safeguards

The marketplace is designed to raise the level of trust.

  • Curated premium brands and luxury eligibility criteria
  • Post-publication moderation of listings
  • Hosting-provider status: Luxydrive introduces the parties, and the transaction is concluded directly between seller and buyer

Securing the payment

Since the transaction takes place directly between you, take extra care with the payment.

  • Escrow is not yet available: it's on our roadmap, so apply these precautions in the meantime
  • Favour an in-person inspection and traceable payment methods
  • Only finalise after you have seen and inspected the vehicle
